Buam Season Year 1 Week 1

It was a rude awakening for the Bears

E-mail Print PDF

After a perfect preseason the team got beaten up by a solid performance of the San Diego Charger in the season opener in California. The loss of number one cornerback Charles Tillman for nearly the whole game was costly for a Bears team that had already starting FS Mike Brown out of the line-up. His replacement V like Vasher got burned five times by the long ball and looked more like a professional ping-pong player searching for his balls against the basketball-like Chargers receivers.

As a group the Bears Defence would have won a Jekyll and Hyde contest – the line and the linebackers were strong against the run and pro ball DT Tommie Harris even sacked Phillip Rivers in the end zone for a safety. But overall they failed to put up a consistent pressure on the quarterback and weren’t able to overcome the secondary collapses. The only bright spot on the team was rookie running back Matt Forte. With two touchdowns, 166 yards on the ground and 37 in the air he led a Bears team that was left high and dry by quarterback Kyle Orton.

The new Red shirt produced two costly interceptions inside the red zone and looked as mobile as Tony Siragusa on Dancing Stars. The Bears look to rebound from the poor performance of the 25-28 loss against the Chargers especially with the return of Tillman and Brown. And all prayers go out to the mighty Manitou that news franchise running back Forte stays healthy the whole season – otherwise the fat lady sings the blues in the windy city.

Muting things up a bit?

Yes, oh well... until now, we even don`t know if they won or lost their season opener. Cool

Guess the weather was good... BTW: Was it a Miami home game???

Hear you soon................. MUTE ..................

....UNMUTE....

Coming from a 1 and 15 seasons there weren't much expectations for the Dolphins entering the new season. That they matched their win total of last year after the first game already is a statement (more about  last year than this season), but not to impresive itself. What was impressive was the improvement the Phins showed on both sides of the field.Individual underperformers from last year like Math Roth (3 sacks in week 1) or Jerry Porter (2 tackles for losses in key situation) showed up on Defense, and Chad Pennington took over on Offense not delivering a TD but spreading the ball in his usual high percentage passing style staying mistake free. The most impressive performance came from Ronnie Brown. Out for the year midway through last season with a serious ACL injury he came back not just to deliver more than 200 yards rushing on 29 carries - were there some people questioning his duability even before his injury? - but scoring his 3rd touchdown of the game with an untouched 69 yard gain just 3 plays into overtime.Still, this could be the only win of this season if the excellent execution in every play won't happen next week.

Same old Bengals???

The Bengals began their season with a home loss against Baltimore, but it took a last minute big play to finish them off.

Defense dominated the first half, and the Bengals' defense held up surprisingly well, giving them a 10-6 halftime lead. It could have been more if Carson Plamer hadn't thrown a costly interception with less than one minute to go in the half after the Bengals had driven to the Ravens' 5 yard line.

The second half was a different story. Although the Ravens offense continued to struggle to establish much of a running game or convert on third down, they did exploit the Bengals' achilles heel - the long pass. Two strikes by Joe Flacco of 55 and 65 yards were enough to put the Ravens ahead, 16-13, with under 2 minutes to go.

Still, the Bengals had a chance to win or at least tie the game, as Carson Palmer led them down to the Ravens 20 yard line with just under 30 seconds to go with one timeout left. But then disaster struck - Palmer was sacked for the fourth time, Chris McAllister picked up the loose ball and ran it back for a 79 yard TD.

Although this sealed a heart-breaking loss, coach Marvin Lewis should be able to draw some consolation from the fact that the defense was solid for most of the day (especially Domata Peko, who recorded 2 sacks, was in Flacco's face all day and eventually knocked him out of the game) - if only the defensive backs could learn how to defend against the deep ball! On the offensive side of the ball, the line held up well against the Ravens' feared front seven, giving Cedric Benson (20 carries for 71 yards) some decent room to run, and protecting Carson Palmer well for most of the day - except when it counted the most...

Jones Niners win in money time 30:27

Joe Nedney converted a 27-yard last-second field goal as the San Francisco 49ers edged the Arizona Cardinals 30-27 in their season opener. Shaun Hill bounced back from a late interception that set up Arizona's game-tying field goal, leading the team downfield in the final minute with a couple of long completions. The Cards' hard-hitting defense forced the Niners to win the game through the air. Hill connected on 24 of his 36 passes, racking up 266 yards.

While being held to only 76 yards on the ground, RB Frank Gore contributed to the Niners' passing attack, connecting on a HB pass that TE Vernon Davis took 79 yards to the house to give San Francisco a ten-point lead at the start of the second half. After putting the ball into Edgerrin James' hands a lot in the first half, the Cardinals highly-touted air attack struck twice in the second half as Kurt Warner connected on deep TD passes to Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. The 49ers seemed to have the game in the wraps, up by three and trying to run down the clock with less than three minutes to go. They caught a lucky break when DeShaun Foster recovered a fumble by Gore. But just a few plays later, Hill forced a throw downfield under heavy pressure and got picked for the second time in the game, putting the Cards in position to win the game. The Niners defense was able to hold them to a field goal, though, and gave Hill the chance to orchestrate a game-winning drive with just over a minute to go.

Being the admin a loss is the real deal...

The season went as well as the preseason for the Rams. Well, this is a unique definition of the word "well". I think the players had coach Ryan Jensens birthday party in mind instead of competing. Therefore a short summary, because despite this lackluster appearance, I will also attend Wink. There was even no game log written...???!!!!

The score:

Carolina Panthers: 30

St. Louis Rams: 10

What we learned told in coach Icky`s unique style:

The good:

Jackass is as good as you can get as a starting RB in the NFL.

The D is sacking the QB a lot, 6 times.

The bad:

We have no backup QB. B. Berlins passer rating was zero!!!

We lost starting CB Ty Hill for the game and M. Bulger for the game twice and for one additional week.

The ugly:

4 TO resulting in 20 CAR points. 1 INT return TD, fumbling a punt return and fumbling a kickoff return, returned immediately for a TD. WOW!!!! Ball security is not an overrated part in this game.

We can´t get a pick even with 3 RAM guys wrestling for the ball and single coverage is a bust!!!

Mc Nuff`s Packers start season as expected

In this season opener home game vs the Eagles, the fans saw a dominating Packers D in the first half, limiting Philadelphias offense to 49 total yards in two quarters. While the Packers offense had trouble executing early on, finishing two drives with field goals for a 6:0 lead, a 37yrd pass from Aaron Rodgers to Tight End Donald Lee brought GB into the Eagles red zone and got everybody going. The drive was topped off with a 2 Yrd TD pass to third stringer TE Tory Humphrey. With 42sec to play, the Eagles tried to strike back before halftime but continued their abysmal performance when Donovan McNabb threw one of his three interceptions and gave the Pack another chance to score. After getting sacked on the first play of the drive, a perfectly executed screen pass to HB Ryan Grant for 24yrds brought Aaron Rodgers in scoring distance with only seconds to play before halftime. A short strike to WR Greg Jennings who bet the corner in one-on-one coverage gave the Green Bay Packers a well deserved 20:0 lead at halftime.

Coming out of the locker room, Philadelphia got better into the game although the Eagles fans had to wait until the beginning of the fourth quarter for their team to score. Brian Westbrook carried the ball into the endzone from 2 yards out on a fourth down giving the team a slight hope to come back into the game. But the Packers didn't let the game get out of their hands, controlled the ball well and scored another touchdown when Aaron Rodgers hit backup RB Brandon Jackson on a 6yrd pass for the final score of 27:7. Best player for the Pack was Quarterback Aaron Rodgers who had a almost perfect game although playing with a healing shoulder injury.
